Food Banks Canada
About this Giving Opportunity
Hunger doesn't just take place overseas – it also happens in our own backyard. Job loss, disability or underemployment are just a few reasons which may force a person to utilize a food bank. Every month, 860,000 people use a food bank in Canada and 36% of food bank users are children and youth, who need good nutrition in order to learn and grow.Food banks continue to be essential in Canada because of poverty; without a basic income, Canadians are unable to access safe, good-quality and nutritious food. Food banks are pillars within communities and provide other forms of support than just food to people facing an urgent need. Many have programs and services such as skills training, community kitchens and job searching. Food banks rely on donations in order to meet their communities’ needs, so please consider giving today.
Food Banks Canada works with 550 food banks and more than 3000 food programs across Canada. In addition to a range of food-related programs for adults and children, many also offer other forms of support such as skills training, community kitchens and gardens, and helping people search for jobs, housing, or affordable child care.
